The guide pick you up by car at your hotel and bring you to the stable (Stallen) at Hotellnesset. There we will saddle the Icelandic horses, and help and guidance will be provided for inexperienced riders. We emphasize that the initial contact between horse and rider is very helpful – particularly at the beginning of the trip.
Maximum weight for rider 90 kg (198lb).
When we start, we ride along the beach out to Vestpynten. There, our horseback ride continues amongst hardy flowers and a rich bird life, and we also have a fantastic view towards the peaks and glaciers on the other side of the ice fjord.
The Icelandic horses are well suited for walks in rough terrain and have a gentle way of walking – plus a distinctive, almost floating gait named rack or singlefoot (tölt). There will not be a lot of galloping, as the main purpose of the trip is to experience a beautiful part of Svalbard from the horseback.
It is also possible for families with children to have tailor made trips where the guide leads the first horse for extra safety.
